My little valentine

Writer's picture: Michelle GilesMichelle Giles

For Madison's first Valentine's day, I really wanted to give a little valentine to the grandparents that had some meaning. Since she was only 6 months old at the time, I had to figure out an activity that will engage this little firecracker but can also be done quite quickly. I came up with "Smoosh art".

For this activity, all you need is;

- Different coloured acrylic paint (I used purple, pink, red, white and sparkle).

- A ziplock bag

- Some cardstock

- A stencil (I used a large and small heart)

- Some tape

- And your energetic baby!

Start by adding drops of paint on to your cardstock paper. Then, carefully insert the cardstock into the ziplock bag and seal it. Make sure the bag is properly sealed since acylic paint is toxic for littles. Tape the bag to the floor or on a hard surface. Now it's time for the star. Place your child close and have them smoosh that paint around. This can be a great tummy time activity or to practice sitting up. When finished, immediately take out the cardstock to dry. When your art is dry, use your stencil and cut out the shape of your choice.

I put the hearts in a picture frame and gave them as Valentine's to my family members with a personalized note.

There you have it, Madison's first art work!

Bye for now.

XO M&M
